Letter from the President

Today’s confession: my kid watches TV (gasp)!  Probably more than he should, but I justify it nicely. I call it educational TV.  He’s learning Spanish and Chinese, all about animals and how to be a good neighbor.  I’ve recently emerged from a slight crisis of confidence in my parenting over not reading enough (or any) parenting books that are regularly mentioned among LHAECPTA Moms to a place where I’m actually OK with my son’s TV habit.  Don’t worry, we also play, play, play and read lots of books together every day too.   I stopped judging myself, (and hopefully you won’t judge me either!) on this daily TV routine because we all do what we can to be a good parent and make it through the day, right?

During yesterday’s now well discussed “TV-time,” we were watching an episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and it was all about saying thank you.  A friend introduced me to Daniel Tiger with a potty training episode and I’ve since found it to be a sneaky way to reinforce and remind Garrett about good manners and habits.  Thank you friend!

So we were watching this episode about a thank you party right before the LHAECPTA Valentine’s Party and Garrett kept insisting we were going to a thank you party, not a V-Day party.   I like the way he thinks!  And actually the two concepts go hand in hand nicely.  During this month of sharing our feelings of love with those closest to our hearts, I’m challenging myself to also thank those who help me in ways I could easily miss most days.  Garrett’s proclamation inspired me to appreciate and enjoy the party even more knowing how hard LHAECPTA volunteers (also Moms of small children) work to host such a great party for our little loves.   And it’s not just the LHAECPTA party planners who deserve our thanks – the entire Executive Board and committee team put in so much talent, time, and focus behind the scenes to make our organization great.  They are an impressive bunch of mommas and dads and I want to say THANK YOU!

I’ve said it before, but I’d love to say it again – thank you, thank you, thank you to every single member who volunteers with the LHAECPTA!  You are appreciated!  I hope all of you readers out there will also take the opportunity to thank a volunteer mom or dad the next time you see them helping out!

Want to join the fun? We have lots of opportunities, big and small, and can always use willing volunteers.  Any and all help is needed and appreciated!
