Welcome to 2012! Another year has come and gone and our kiddos continue to grow and discover new things. We had a wonderful Holiday season with family and friends and I'm reminded often how grateful I am to have landed in Lake Highlands in such a welcoming and friendly community. I believe what makes our neighborhood so amazing are organizations such as the LHAECPTA. We are able to host so many playgroups, children parties, and adult interest groups because of all of the many members who volunteer their time and talents to give back to our group. I am so amazed at how many of our members not only plan and coordinate but also help out with set up, clean up, bringing items, etc. It's all of these efforts that make our events possible. I hope you'll consider how you can contribute back to the group in 2012.

I read a quote somewhere that said you should do something that scares you. Well, I'm not about to jump out of a perfectly good airplane and skydive or go bungee jumping. But I did decide to host the Wine + Design group which involved giving a tour of my house in December. The reason that this scared me a bit is because I have several areas in my home that I have great ideas for but when I agreed to host, the reality was far from my vision! So I agreed to host this group because I figured it would be great motivation for me to work on my house. Although I had a few moments of “am I crazy for doing this?!”, in the end the house looked great (thanks in part to my husband and his great help). The night was great and everyone who came were so fun and had some really fun ideas. So I'd ask you to think about something that you might have been thinking of doing but may be a bit scared to do. I say go for it!

A big part of that for my love of Lake Highlands is the Lake Highlands Early Childhood PTA and all of the friendships I've made. I hope you find friendships for you and your children as well. A great way is to explore our playgroups, children activities, and adult interest groups. Read on for all the great ways to meet new friends and develop better friendships with those you already know! Believe it or not, in January our nominating committee will be meeting to begin recruiting our board for the 2012-2013 school year. In December, our membership approved the proposed by-laws and board positions which means that we have positions which don't require attending board meetings but still give members a chance to give back to the group, as well as many board positions. Please see the nominating form later in the newsletter with all the details of each role. I hope you'll consider how you can contribute to our wonderful group.
